SRT & Goossens take it all
The clash between the SRT Corvette (Goossens / Hart) and the TT Porsche remained nail biting right until the end of the last race. A fourth place was sufficient for Penders / Lamot, even if the Corvette won, to take the GT title. Finally, one and a half points separated the teams and it was the Chevy taking the race as the Corvette won, while the TT Porsche only finished in 6th position. It was the 5th victory this season for the blue Corvette. With five victories in 8 races, it’s for sure a well deserved title for the SRT duo Goossens / Hart in the 3rd Belcar season for the American V8.
But the race and the championship stayed wide open until the chequered flag. Surprisingly, both PSI-Porsches occupied the front-row after qualifying, with the Kuismanen Viper in third. After some set-up problems, the Corvette only took fourth on Saturday. The opening stages of the race were tricky as the track was still wet. The choice of tyres could have been decisive for the outcome of the race. Slicks were a very clever but risky business. AD Sport and RS Racing, both entering 996 biturbos, took the risk but the outcomes for the two teams were very different. Koen Wauters went off heavily in the opening laps, so exit AD Sport, but Ruben Maes and François Verbist (RS Racing) reaped the rewards of their strategy and were in competition for the overall podium until the end of the race. They even led the race briefly, thanks to a very long first stint. Just before the finish line, Bouvy / Menten took third from Verbist / Maes, while Kuismanen / Vosse finished second, behind the superb Corvette. Even though Hart / Goossens started from fourth, they won by almost a lap. Menten was able to disturb Hart briefly in the beginning of the race but finally the SRT pair made it home for their fifth victory. In GTB Penders / Lamot won for the seventh time; the Belgium Racing Ultima of Derdaele / Empsen was second and the S&P Porsche of Haane / Ceusters third.
SRT takes the title in GT and GTA while Marc Goossens is the new Belcar driver champion, in front of his team mate David Hart, and then Rudi Penders. In GT, Penders / Lamot are of course vice-champions, while Kuismanen / Vosse finished third. In GTA, Menten / Bouvy finished third behind Goossens / Hart and Kuismanen / Vosse while in GTB, Lamot / Penders are champions with the Qvick Ultima of Qvick / Geoffroy in second and the First Motorsport Porsche of Van Loo / Jamers / Van Rompuy in third.
Third consecutive title for Beliën / Jakobs in Tourism
British drivers Barrow / Cox won the Tourism division and the TB class this weekend. Muytjens / Josten were second and Beliën / Jakobs third. The latter also take the title in Tourism and the TA-class. Haschke / Josten / Muytjens and Broodcooren / De Coster complete the championship podium in Tourism. In TA the final result is: Beliën / Jakobs, Beckers / Cassiers and Carlier Cuyvers / Bruynoghe while in TB GS drivers Haschke / Josten / Muytjens take the spoils for Broodcooren / De Coster and De Hoen / Essers
GS Motorsport dominated the race itself until their engine died after three-quarters of the race distance.
Last but not least, the Ladies and Junior Challenge go respectively to Alexandra Van de Velde and Johan Van Loo.
