August 23 – 27 will see Zolder as the setting for the 28th edition of the Zolder 24 hours. The major race of the Mediagroep Van Dyck Belcar Original 2006 is the fifth of the season and with points to gain after 6, 12 and of course 24 hours, the result of the race should significantly influence the final outcome of the championship.
Whereas class-1 is a duel between both the GLPK and SRT Corvettes, the battles in class-2 and class-3 will be very open.
Major last minute news is the participation of the Eurotech LM600, with Cor Euser being third driver, joining Van Dongen and Goossens.
But there is more than the Zolder 24 hours only. On the track, the Belcar Endurance Cup and the Belcar Sprint Cup will be supporting the 24-hour race. These races are of course part of the well-known Belcar Umbrella. The Legend Cars and Formula Renault will take care of more on-track action, with two races each, and with a total of seven races, the crowd has many reasons to flock to Zolder.
The public staying at home will be delighted too: live coverage on television will be broadcast by Kanaal 2, Club RTL and HIBN (via internet), live from the track. Kanaal 2 was absent at Spa, but the Dutch-language channel will go live three times: on Saturday from 16.25 till 18.00, with a preview and the first hour of the race and twice on Sunday with a update from 11.13 till 12.13 and of course the finish from 16.15 till 17.15. During the live broadcasting, there will also be highlights, interviews and pitlane reporting.
Another major support for the event is the fifth edition of www.24u.be. This website covers the Zolder 24 Hours throughout the month of August with all the major news in three languages (Dutch/French/English). Patrick, Marnik, Marc, Martijn and Bert, together with freelance contributors, will bring news, live-coverage, pictures and much more for all the fans. There is also a possibility for all teams to publish all the team information on a separate webpage of the site. More info on: teaminfo@24u.be.
The animation throughout the weekend will be impressive too:
• Monster Jam’s “Grave Digger” will visit the Party Village
• Radio controlled racing on petrol
• A Flemish kermis and children amusement
• On photo with the P-Magazine Babes
• Discover the sky of Zolder with the Euphony Skywatch
